Celestial Happenings

September 23 - October 23, 2011

printable version

I presented what I believe to be a very important article in the Virgo issue of As Above, So Below. This is a detailed description of the long-lasting square between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. It will serve as an introduction to the brief comments which introduce the “Celestial Happenings” for this month. The power and potency of this square is such I believe that in light of current events, more commentary is necessary. If you would like to review this piece, please go and click on the “archive” portion of the Newsletter tab. My international readers will excuse me if I only use the present American political scene as a backdrop and example of what I wish to say. I am sure however, that many if not all of the implications of these words are also applicable in a more global sense.

What makes transition and transmutation so challenging these days is that the power and solidity of the social archetypes of the past (Pluto in Capricorn) are so firmly rooted in human consciousness while the in-coming potency of the new (Uranus in Aries) are at best only in seed form. Such solidity corresponds to the fear-based materialism that is at the core of people who are not sun-centered in their individuation process. In other words who are not objectively aware of the fact that they are conscious and are thus not focused in the Heart Center. The vast majority of humanity (and specifically nearly 100% of the members of the Republican/Tea Party—whose nickname by the way is the GOP, standing for the Grand Old Party!) are decidedly unconscious and centered in the solar plexus and lower mind centers. This may make for intelligent people (and politicians are smart, stupidly and unconsciously smart though that may be, but decidedly very intelligent), but certainly not for conscious men and women who can and do activate the cause of Goodwill.

Most people take their sense of personal security in what is known and able to be controlled. They seek to be dominated by those “father-figures” who provide them with a good material life, a religion that is easy to understand (and preferably one that is dualistic in nature so that they may claim to be “good and godly” while all others are “evil”—people tend towards polarization especially when they are on the “right” pole), and a sense of being especially selected by the Divine. The current Pluto in Capricorn collective paradigm provides exactly this illusion and most people love to be deluded by the illusions that mask true perception.

“It now comes to pass” that our celestial ancient rebel, Mr. Uranus in Aries, the sign of potent adolescence, appears on our collective screen. Uranus is known as the Father of (new) archetypes, and these are especially stimulating when generated through the sign of the Ram! Uranus also happens to be both the ruler of the Age of Aquarius and the ruler of President Obama’s chart. Mr. Obama thus embodies the humanitarian urges for equality (Aquarius) through his strong solar personality (Sun in Leo). In my book, Rulers of the Horoscope, I point out that “wherever your ruler goes, there go you.” Thus Mr. Obama and by extension the Democratic Party are dominated by the energies of Uranus in Aries despite the conservative and self-serving dynamics of many left-of-center Democratic politicians. There are few angels in Washington (although in my personal opinion, Mrs. Obama certainly shines out in authentic goddess goodness).

So here we have a Republican roster of highly polarizing, materially oriented, arch-conservative manipulative nuts (Bachman and Palin), a genuinely mean man (Perry), a naïve narcissist (Romney), and a constipated Newt running for office under the banner of Pluto in Capricorn. With a Uranus in Aries motivated Democratic Party whose social agenda and the archetypes it represents is trying to incarnate at a time that has not yet fully come and led by a President whom I believe to be too kind a humanist to deal with such a collection of fully incarnated Plutocrats.

And you think you have problems!

CONSTANTS
There are certain planetary positions that remain constant all month. These are:

  1. Pluto at 4 to 5 degrees of Capricorn.
  2. Neptune at 28 degrees of Aquarius.
  3. Uranus retrograde from 3 to 1 degrees of Aries.
  4. Saturn at 17 to 21 Libra.
  5. Jupiter retrograde at 9 to 5 degrees of Taurus.

You are very welcome to go to the Archive section at www.alanoken.com to research my numerous comments about the specific meanings of these transits. You will also find in some of the past issues of this Newsletter some detailed articles about many of these transits. As for this month’s Celestial Happenings, the following are noteworthy (Please keep in mind that the times and dates offered are all given in Greenwich Mean Time.***):

September 23: The Sun enters Libra at 09:06am.

September 25: Mercury enters Libra at 09:10pm; the Sun opposes Uranus at 2 Libra/Aries.

With both the Sun and Mercury (as well as the transit of Venus) in the sign of peace and harmony, there will be a tremendous collective urge to make pacts and reach agreements. This will be true both on a personal and planetary level. But such will not be the case today as revolutionary Uranus in Aries will challenge the urge for the unity of forces and instead support individual activity. It should also be pointed out that Libra rules both people sitting on the same side of the table as well as people sitting across from one another. Thus the conclusion that Libra is both the ruler of marriage and the ruler of “open enemies” (sometimes they are one in the same and then things really get complicated!). Bottom line: I see more political disagreements than agreements during this first week of Libra. People with important placements of planets and points in their natal charts in the first 5 degrees of the Cardinal signs have already been experiencing the dual forces of the “established” versus the “new” in their lives since March of this year. This week will be no different.

September 27-28: New Moon at 4 Libra at 11:10am; Mars sextile the Sun at 4 Leo/Libra; Sun conjunct Mercury at 5 Libra; Mercury and the Sun square Pluto at 5 Libra/Capricorn.

The New Moon is always significant of the urge to begin the making of plans and the inauguration of projects. Libra will focus these efforts in terms of relationships on all levels: personal, professional, and political. The urge to communicate those resolutions and social contracts that bring about such unions is especially strong what with Mercury conjunct the Sun. But their mutual square to Pluto and wide opposition to Uranus will make such accomplishments very difficult if not impossible. I believe this will manifest specifically in the Middle East.

September 29: Mercury sextile Mars at 6 Libra/Leo; Venus conjunct Saturn at 18 Libra.

Efforts continue to bring about agreements between people but economic factors present stumbling blocks. There is a strong need to recognize mutual responsibilities for the common good of all parties concerned. I speak here not just of world issues but things that go on in our own kitchens and bedrooms as well. “As Above, So Below!”

October 1: Sun sextile Mars at 8 Libra/Leo.

I find this combination rather favorable as it can bring a lot of fun and passion into relationship dynamics.

October 2: Mars square Jupiter at 8 Leo/Taurus.

Care should be taken that selfish desires and special interests do not block the way to greater insights and understandings where finances are concerned.

October 6: Mercury conjunct Saturn at 18 Libra.

This is a great day to delineate the details of mutual responsibilities in terms of plans and projects.

October 7: Venus trine Neptune at 28 Libra/Aquarius.

This can be a lovely day for a party or other type of happy gathering between friends and like-minded people. It is also a great time for romance, activities that are musical or artistic, and the pleasure of life’s enjoyable pastimes.

October 9: Venus enters Scorpio at 5:51am.

This is not the best or most favorable sign for the Goddess of Love and Wealth. She tends to become more intense about her relationships, jealousies and passions flare up, selfishness comes into view and sides are taken (“either you are on my side or you are a loser!”).

October 12: Full Moon at 18 Aries 24 at 2:07am.

The full moon in any sign tends to increase emotional volatility. If the full moon takes place in Aries this means that the Sun is in Libra and thus the Aries/Libra polarity focuses this heightened emotional quality in terms of our interpersonal relationships.

October 13: Mercury enters Scorpio at 10:53am; Sun conjunct Saturn at 20 Libra; Venus sextile Pluto at 5 Scorpio/Capricorn.

This can be a good day for making mutually beneficial financial agreements as well as for bringing to light an awareness of correct responsibilities within the structure of our personal relationships.

October 14: Venus in opposition to Jupiter at 7 Scorpio/Taurus.

People tend to the need for celebration and good times whenever there are strong contacts between these two planets. The danger here is that financial resources may be wasted in the pursuit of such pleasures.

October 16-23: Jupiter trine Pluto within 1 degree of exactitude from 6 Taurus to 5 Capricorn.

This entire period could spark a general temporary improvement in the world’s stock markets. I would also think that the world currency markets will be in the news. If you have these degrees in these signs (plus Virgo) in your natal chart, you may come into some positive financial increases in your life, especially if the natal ruler of the 2nd house, and the natal Midheaven, Venus, Jupiter and or Pluto were involved.

October 17: Mercury opposing Jupiter at 7 Scorpio/Taurus.

If these degrees are prominent in your chart, take care not to overspend where travel or the pursuit of education is involved. Should these degrees be occupied by the signs Virgo or Pisces, certain advantages in terms of education and travel may be forthcoming.

October 21: Sun trine Neptune at 28 Libra/Aquarius.

A good day for sharing spiritual, humanitarian, or metaphysical insights and activities with friends.

Love and blessings to one and all.

***To calculate the correct hour for your local time in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, please note that for EDST subtract 4 hours; CDST minus 5 hours; MDST minus 6 hours; PDST minus 7 hours. In Britain add one hour, CEDT add two hours, and for EEDT add three hours. For my friends in Australia, NZ, and other points south of the equator, I know that the time adjustment that you need to make to GMT is already familiar to you.
