The Tibetan Master, D.K. gives us two phrases that summarize the function of Gemini on first the personality and then on the soul level. These are these most apt few words followed by my brief interpretation of them:
Let instability do its work. This phrase embodies within it all the vicissitudes of ordinary life: unpredictable changes, fluctuations in human relationships, and the lack of cohesion in the lives of a huge multitude of people. Such instability serves to bring about the need to find the focus of harmony, a focus that can only be achieved with soul awareness.
I recognize my other self, and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow. The individual now knows himself to be the soul. As the personality releases its hold upon the energies of one’s life, the soul is able to relate to the lower self and the material/astral world in which it predominately functions, with direction and clarity.
The lower self then becomes the disciplined extension of the Higher, creating whatever adjustments may be needed to bring forth Consciousness and Healing. This struggle is called “The Middle Path.”

The primary function of all the mutable signs is to produce a constant state of flux—a periodic, cyclic movement in time and space—in order to provide an adequate field of expression for involution/evolution and thus for the life of the soul. It is the gathering of life experiences, based on such movements of relatedness and relationship which is fundamental to Gemini. Gemini relates.
Gemini changes, mutates, and adjusts everything that is necessary for the evolution of consciousness, both in our ordinary human life and in the collective life of humanity. From the soul-centered approach to astrology, the house cusp upon which Gemini is located in your natal chart will reveal where these soul-unfolding changes are most likely to come about, as well as the areas in your life where a great deal of Second Ray (Love/Wisdom, Healing Consciousness) energy is likely to be found.
When the Celestial Twins are operative primarily through the Sun or rising sign in the life of a man or woman whose focus of awareness is centered in the personality, certain definite characteristics emerge. The inherent urge for movement so particular to Gemini, is often externalized without an integrated sense of plan or purpose for such actions. In the most basic type of Gemini individual, the instinctual mind/feeling nature rules the life, a state of (un)consciousness known in the Ancient Wisdom Teachings as “kama-manas.” The instinctive, personality centered Gemini is therefore primarily subjective in what he thinks—there is no objectified awareness. He moves to the dictates of the instinctive mind/feeling nature, motivated solely by the necessity to experience what is programmed within the psychological nature.
The focus of relatedness here is how everything and everyone relates to oneself. The sense of shared interchange is totally missing. Every motion and every person is experienced as a means of furthering one’s own ends. The lessons in life will come to teach Gemini on this level the true importance and meaning of interrelatedness, a factor personified in Libra and perfected in Aquarius. The Gemini man or woman on the Way has become very aware of the orientation of relatedness and relationship. Intelligence is now moving rapidly from instinctive to creative and from subjective to objectified. The urge to share what one knows with and learn from others becomes paramount in life. One simply wants to learn and communicate the truth about whatever one’s interests may be. The dualities in one’s life will become viewed as “spiritual tests” for the urge for one-pointedness will begin to dominate one’s personal aspirations for inner growth and development.
At an even higher stage of being, the Gemini individual becomes a conscious vehicle for creating harmonious and enlightened linkages in the world. Here the Divine Messenger begins to take flight in the life of such an individual. This person may find him or herself at work with aligning and blending various conflicting political and social forces, acting as an agent for harmony in terms of group interrelations, inventing technological advances for the benefit of humanity, and other such acts of Goodwill. It is also important to state that such a brother or sister is conscious of the spiritual implications of these activities as they form part of Gemini’s Path.
To summarize this brief look at geminian duality (and potential unity), we can say that the nature of the Gemini personality is geared to a distinct orientation to the creation of variabilities, varieties, movements, and multiplicities. The subjective purpose for such mutability is to enlarge the breadth and depth of one’s life experience. Sometimes such multifaceted activities are at cross purposes, leading to diffusion and confusion of intent and direction. The more highly evolved Gemini individual will work to create unity in diversity, harmony through polarization, integration through experimentation. As the focus of life is the need to communicate (first the personality, then later the soul), the more naïve Gemini will only express and understand his or her personal opinions. The developed Twin is able to be in touch with Universal Mind, thus allowing Gemini access to all people’s thoughts, ideas, and concepts as a talent used to bring about healing and wholeness.
