The Aquarian who is living a life completely centered in the personality and not connected to the more impersonal—yet so very universal—life of the soul tends towards dissipation of vitality and a constant challenge to a really anchored sense of his or her creative center. This often results in a distinct superficiality frequently manifesting as a frequent need to call attention to oneself, a need that in many cases results in unpredictable behavior, unconventional modes of dress, and other was that may cast a spotlight on the Aquarian shadow. It is necessary to recall that each sign is a reflection in some measure of its polarity and in this case, it is Leo. But while the personality-centered Leo is deeply connected to his or her egocentricity, the personality-centered Aquarian is far more diffused.
The more conscious and truly individualized Aquarian man or women has absorbed the lessons of Leo, is definitely in touch with the creative heart of his or her personal "galaxy" and through the positive influences of their co-ruler Saturn, is focused on establishing their sense of personal responsibility within their social network. This is a man or woman who is now prepared for a specialized form of group work that embodies the urge to be of service to humanity. The waters of consciousness held atop the shoulders of the Wo(M)an with the Urn may now be successfully poured into the steam of the collective field of activity of the surrounding life.
Probably the greatest gift of the Water Bearer is their vision of equality and the essential unity of all humankind that characterizes a person centered in the heart. If we observe a soul-centered Aquarian at work, we will find an individual (in the truest sense of the term) taking a little from this place, adding a bit from that, and finally shaping all of these various ingredients into a highly original "recipe" that can be of benefit to one and all. This Aquarian doesn't lose herself in her various components and interests. She neither leaks her waters nor is absorbed by them. Instead, she stays at her center (a gift from soul-centered Leo) while simultaneously distributing her gifts through the social connections that so easily come to her. From this center, Aquarius moves outward, remaining conscious of the whole while fulfilling her part.
What is truly fascinating to this observer is that the conscious Aquarian can reverse the process! Thus he can be receptive to all the various streams of human life, bring these expressions of creativity back into himself, thus furthering his own sense of synthesis, awareness and process of self-development before giving it out again. It is in this cohesive circulation of energy and not in its diffusion or dissipation that the soul-centered Aquarian makes his or her stand. Aquarius—along with Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio—is a fixed sign. The primary purpose of this quadruplicity is for the transmutations of personal desires and values for the greater purpose and expression of the collective body of humanity (which is in effect, the function of the Higher Self).
In essence we can say that Aquarius gives the urge to create a distinct sense of self. This will involve, along one's passages through life, a need for personal integration and synthesis leading to true individualization, i.e. an intimate contact with oneself as an active conscious co-creator within the evolving Life Stream. This process requires the Aquarian to be able to discriminate and prioritize their life within an enormous field of possibilities and great generalities. What emerges is a person who can clearly state: "The more individualized I become, the more universalized I am."
