Dear Friends,
The magic and beauty of this incredible island await you as a backdrop for The Bali Experience 2011. Please join with me, Melanie Reinhart, Jean Redman, a traditional Balinese astrologer, and the High Priest and Priestess of Tampaksiring as we open ourselves to Astrology and the Alchemy of Transformation. Spaces here are defiitely limited but consciousness is not!
Location: We will be staying at the 5-star Hotel Sanur Beach. This spacious venue is located on a perfect white beach and contains two enormous swimming pools, beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, and lovely restaurants, bars, tennis court, and teaching areas. The pictures on their website are fine, but they do not do the place justice, it is lovely! The village of Sanur is just minutes by foot from the hotel entrance where you will find many local cafés and eating spots, plus heaps of shopping, including a night market. Walks along the beach will bring you to other enchanting spots to dine, sip, and relax. Jean lived in Sanur for two years and knows the best places, so just ask her for some tips. I was able to secure deluxe or superior rooms for us all, all looking down upon the wonderful gardens. Our meeting room is tops with ample space for everyone, a private snack/coffee glass enclosed alcove and tables so you can write comfortably. We will also have 2 tea, coffee, snack and juice breaks each day.
Program: We will be exploring the dynamics of personal alchemy, the road to our transformation to more conscious human beings. I will be using the signs, planets, four elements, three modalities, and the Seven Rays as our guiding symbols as we climb up and down the planes from the physical to the spiritual and back again. You will not need an advanced level of astrological or esoteric knowledge to take this journey with me, but you will need to have at least a working vocabulary of the items mentioned above. Most important will be your urge to grow in Light, live in Love, thrive in Wisdom, and combine these Three into the practical expressions of your daily lives.
Each day will be centered on a theme for which a seed meditation will be given every morning. That theme (for example; The Alchemy of Fire, The Fire Signs, Intuition, and the Power of our Creative Will) is then explored throughout the day and we will close each session with another meditation to seal and integrate what we have been given. You should also feel free to start your day with a 20 minute walk along the beach before breakfast to welcome the sun and breathe the fresh air (lots of prana/ vitality in that little bit of exercise and on some mornings I will join you). The 7 teaching days of the seminar are February 4, 5, 6 and 8, 9, 10, 11. You have the day off on the 7th and you should consider taking the cultural tour that Jean has planned for us for that day.
Guest Speakers: We are incredibly fortunate that Melanie Reinhart (the Rhodesian/British astrologer and noted author of Chiron and the Healing Journey) will be able to join us and present an afternoon presentation entitled: Chiron and the Alchemy of Transformation. Jean Redman, the leader of our tours and creator of The Balinese Tarot, will speak on The Tarot and the Alchemy of Transformation. Our third distinguished guest is a traditional Balinese astrologer who will share some insights with us about his culture and its special system of astrology.
The Tours: Three one-day optional tours will be offered guided by Jean Redman. Please see the full tour descriptions later on in this letter.
Fees and Package: The seminar portion of the Bali Experience includes 7 nights hotel (February 4 through 10, check out on the 11th) plus an incredible breakfast buffet, light refreshments 2x a day during teaching breaks, 7 days of teachings with Alan plus the three special guest lectures, and a beautiful dinner banquet accompanied by Balinese traditional music and dancers.
Cost: US$1489 (per person, double occupancy).
Please note: If you choose to occupy a double room by yourself, there is a single supplement charge of US$400. Please keep in mind that we only have been allotted a small number of singles, so please register as soon as possible if this is your choice for accommodations. If you are coming with a partner who is not attending the seminar, please keep in mind that spaces are limited and such an accommodation must be made personally with Alan. Your partner will pay $500 to share your room for the 7 nights of the seminar and is very welcome to attend the dinner banquet and entertainment program for a charge of US$45, as well as go on any of the 3 optional tours at the same price as seminar participants.
Roommates: If you are not coming with a friend and would like to share a room, we will select a roommate for you. We will then send you the name and email address of your roommate so that the two of you may get to know one another a bit before you arrive in Bali. Smokers will room together and non-smokers will room together.
Extra nights at the hotel: I am asking that everyone arrive at the hotel on the 3rd to rest up from your journey and begin afresh when we start on the morning of the 4th. There will be a no-host bar get together at 6:00pm on the evening of the 3rd where we can meet one another. You will note that the First Tour is offered on the 7th and your room charge is covered for that night. Many international flights leave late in the evening, so if you choose to check out on the 11th and go the airport after class, there will be no charge, just leave your packed bags with the hotel. The Second and Third Tour are offered on the 12th and 13th and our hotel will be our home base. Therefore if you arrive on the 3rd (highly advised) and stay on for the tours, I have arranged a special discounted room rate for that night which is $55 (double per person or $110 single). You will need to confirm and prepay those days with me as the hotel will be giving me the entire bill for your stay. You will just need to present a credit card upon check in for your incidentals such as telephone calls, meals, drinks, etc. These you will settle on your own upon check out.
Internet: The ample lobby is totally WI-FI and the use of the internet is free. There is also a Business Center where internet service is available at a modest hourly rate and an internet center immediately opposite the hotel.
Taxis: A taxi from the airport to the hotel or vice-versa is somewhere between US$10-15, this is for the cab, not per person. When you arrive at the airport there is an official taxi station to your left as you exit. Go there and tell them you are going to the Hotel Sanur Beach. The fare is pre-paid; just give your driver a tip. No worries, no hassles, no negotiations, no mistakes.
Flights: Alan has flown from all parts of the world to and from Bali many times. He will be very happy to offer his advice on the best and least expensive ways to get here. Keep in mind that February is low season for most airlines, so ticket prices will be lower at that time than at any other for the most part.
Weather, what to wear, and what to bring:
The weather is always warm in Bali but the nights especially by the ocean are wonderful. Your rooms are air-conditioned but you all have balcony doors if you choose not to use the a/c. Bali is divided into two seasons: the wet and the dry. Global climatic changes are blurring this distinction. For example June and July are the height of the dry seasons and we have had many days of rain during these months this year. February is in the wet season but last February we did not have any rain at all. When it does rain, it usually lasts for a torrential downpour of between 30 minutes and an hour during the day (sometimes twice a day) and it will usually rain during the night while you sleep. Bali is very informal. You need only simple cotton clothing although you may feel like dressing up a bit for the banquet (but this is not necessary). Jean Redman will be sending all registrants a letter describing the best kinds of clothing to wear. DO NOT BRING TOO MUCH WITH YOU. You will want to shop as Bali is a real shopping delight. If you take an extra suitcase along, you will be very happy that it is an empty one—it will be filled on your return, I promise!
Visa: If you come from the USA, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia you will not need a visa a
head of time for a stay of under 30 days. But you will have to purchase a tourist visa upon arrival and the cost is US$25. You will also need to pay a departure tax at the airport of 150,000 Rps. (US$16.50).
Now for a description of the Tours:
GLORIOUS BALI DAY TOURS WITH JEAN REDMAN
Jean is an American who has lived on Bali for the last six years. She has had the privilege of being adopted into a traditional Balinese family and village and has consistently participated in the spiritual and daily life of this wonderful island. Jean has studied and researched the Balinese pantheon of gods and goddesses and created the Balinese Tarot Deck. She has been a student and teacher of metaphysics for over 25 years and looks forward to sharing her knowledge of Balinese culture with you. Jean and Alan have been best friends for 31 years and have traveled the world together.
Blessings Tour #1—February 7th.
Our private coach will take us first to the mystical Full Moon Temple, Puri Penataran Sasih, to gaze upon a huge bronze drum said to be given to Bali by the gods more than 2,000 years ago. We then travel upland to the village of Tampaksiring to receive the special blessings of a High Priest, the 14th lineage keeper of this tradition. His wife, who is a High Priestess will be in attendance. (Jean and Alan were the only Western people to have been invited to their initiation ceremony some four months ago.) Setting for this blessing will be in the Kampung (house compound) of the High Priest and Priestess´ family. We will then be served a Balinese lunch. This will be followed by a short journey to the Holy Spring Temple, Pura Tirta Empul where we will make offerings to the gods and then immerse ourselves (the water is waist deep) for blessings and purification. These springs are dated 926AD and the water is delivered out of the mouths of Naga (dragon) statues. We will then return to Sanur.
Tour includes lunch, guides, transportation, tips, your gift of a sarong and sash, and admission fees. Cost: US$80 (limited to 35 people).
Balinese Temple Tour #2—February 12th.
We begin our tour by visiting and making offerings to the Mother at the Durga temple, located on one of the most sacred mountains of Bali, Batakaru. We then will travel to the most spectacular terraced rice fields in all of Bali (an amazing site!) to pay homage to the Rice Goddess Dewi Sri and then have lunch in a lovely restaurant over-looking the sacred padis of Jatiluwih. Traveling on after lunch, we drive to the lake district where we visit the Ulan Danu Temple in the town of Bedugul. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Dewi Danu. Jean will be sharing her knowledge of all of these goddesses and the importance of each in the Balinese pantheon and their place in the Balinese way of life. We will make a stop at the Bedugul Market where you can pick up a wide variety of fresh tropical fruit as some of their famous steamed peanuts to munch on during our ride back to the hotel.
Tour includes lunch, guides, transportation, tips, your gift of a sarong and sash, and admission fees. Cost: US$80 (limited to 35 people)
Tour #3: Temple for the Soul—Body indulgence, Shop and Dine.
Jean has created this tour with women in mind who would like to have a day of total enjoyment to relax and unwind before their long international flights home (of course men are also invited and very welcome!). The Balinese believe that the body is a sacred temple for the soul. In this light, we will travel to the fantastic center of Balinese arts, the town of Ubud in Central Bali. There we will first have an experience that will bring peace to the spirit, serenity to the mind, and vitality to the body. This consists of the traditional treatment of a Balinese Mandi Lulur. This is a massage using local herbs and healing oils followed by a bath (mandi) filled with flower petals. These oils are generally made from extracts of ginger (jahe), frangipani (jepun), sandalwood oil (cendana), and coconut (kelapa). You will then be given several hours to find your favorite spot for a light lunch and explore the incredible markets and boutiques of Ubud. This will be followed by dinner in front of the Goddess Temple of Saraswati at the famous Lotus Gardens of the Lotus Café. We return to Sanur following our meal.
Tour includes transportation, massage and bath, tips, your gift of a sarong and sash, and dinner. Space will be limited on this tour to 30 people. Cost: $95.
