APPLIED ESOTERIC ASTROLOGY: THE PURPOSE OF THE SOUL IN THE NATAL HOROSCOPE

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of Esoteric Astrology and The Ancient Wisdom Teachings or the equivalent. Several years of study in the areas of traditional and/or humanistic astrology.

The objective of this course is for the student to obtain a more profound and practical understanding of applied esoteric astrology and the soul-centered approach to astrological delineation.

It is assumed that the student has already some background with esoteric astrology (preferably by reading Alice Bailey's book by that name) and is also familiar with Alan Oken's Soul-Centered Astrology. The student should also have an understanding of some of the fundamental principles found in theosophical sources, the Bailey material and other containers of The Ancient Wisdom. This grounding in the above subjects does not have to be either lengthy or expert, but it is important that the student have an active working vocabulary in these subject areas.

The course is designed around the student. It therefore contains a definite degree of spontaneity and openness. Certain areas of esoteric astrology are absolute requirements. These include but are not limited to:

The nature and function of The Seven Rays.
The nature and function of the chakra system.
The relationship between the Rays, the chakras, and the planets.
Ray dynamics and astrological aspects.
The influence of Ray energies as planetary transits.
Aspects between the esoteric and exoteric rulers of the signs.
The interpolation of the esoteric and exoteric significance of the astrological houses.
The nature of the Ascendant as it ruler from the exoteric and esoteric points of view.
The three crosses and their corresponding levels of consciousness.
Finding the purpose of the soul in the natal chart.

Written, reading, and oral assignments will be given out on a regular basis. The student will also be asked to submit a list of astrological, metaphysical, and esoteric books in his or her personal library.

Course mentored personally by Alan Oken. Fee: $3000 for 12 75-90 minute sessions either via telephone or in person (all sessions are simultaneously recorded). This fee also includes any extra time Alan may need to correct homework assignments or for email correspondence with the student. Also included are all course materials (but not additional books that may be recommended for additional study), cost of telephone communication, tapes and postage. Payment may be made in full or by installments with a minimum deposit of $600 and the rest paid out in equal monthly installments over a six month period.

Fundamentals of the Ancient Wisdom Teachings

A ten-session course on cassette tape, that offers the student an introduction to many of the main areas of study involved in the Ancient Wisdom.

Session 1: Ten principles and postulants of the Ancient Wisdom Teachings concerning the structure and functioning of the Cosmos; Basic Laws of the Teachings including: the Laws of Synthesis, Cohesion, Attraction, Economy, Karma, Vibration, etc.

Session 2: Symbolism, abstract thinking and the development of intuition; humanity as a reflection of Divinity; the esoteric structure of Man and Woman: the monad, the soul, the personality and their interrelationships; the antahkarana and the sutratma.

Session 3: The physical plane and the physical body, the etheric vehicle, the astral plane and the emotional body, the mental plane and the mental body; evolution in the human kingdom; karma.

Session 4: The nature and the structure of the spiritual path, the probationary path, and the path of discipleship. Initiation and serving humanity. Meditation.

Session 5: The development of consciousness as seen through the twelve signs of the zodiac: Part I-Aries through Virgo.

Session 6: Part II-Libra through Pisces. Cosmogenesis and the cycles of manifestation (manvantaras and pralayas). Life, death and the process of rebirth. The work of the Triple Logos.

Session 7: Energy-Fohat, Prana, and Kundalini. The Hierarchy. The work of building the Self. The nature and work of the soul. Soul fusion and the function of consciousness.

Session 8: The science of the chakras, Part I. A detailed perspective (with numerous diagrams) of the structure, purposes, and function of the seven major and numerous minor centers.

Session 9: The science of the chakras, Part II. A continuation of the above with a special emphasis on the relationship between the chakras, the planets, the Rays and astrology.

Session 10: Synthesis of the relationship between the soul and the personality. The way of the disciple in the New Age. Opening the door to Light Magic.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES OF ASTROLOGICAL DELINEATION AND INTERPRETATION

The objective of this course is for the student to deepen his or her knowledge and skill at horoscope interpretation. The sessions are designed around the student's level of proficiency, seeking to fill in the gaps and open new frontiers of astrological insight and understanding.

It is assumed that the student has already studied astrology to the point of having a total familiarity with the astrological alphabet of keywords, signs, planets, houses and aspects. Professional astrologers who are in pursuit of specific areas of astrological training are also welcome.

Although the course will definitely have a degree of spontaneity and openness, certain areas of study will be covered in detail. These include but are not limited to:

The nature and function of planetary dispositorship.
A profound assessment of the ruler of the horoscope.
The relationship between the ruler and its dispositor.
The final dispositor of the horoscope.
The strengths and weakness of planets when in certain "conditions" in the natus.
The secondary meanings of the houses.
The interpretation of the rulers of the four major angles of the chart and their interrelationships.
The phase dynamics of the luminaries.
Complex aspect patterns and the synthesis of strengths and weaknesses in the chart.
Negative dynamics: the absence of planets in elements, qualities, and houses.
The meaning, nature and function of unaspected planets.
The essential meaning of the Ascendant and its planetary ruler and the relationship of these factors to the placement of the luminaries.
Planetary directions: transits, progressions, and returns.
Fine points of astrological synthesis.
