The astrologer as scientist involves the mastery of observation as he or she reflects upon the many dials of the Cosmic Clock, taking note of their movements in relationship to personal and world happenings. The astrologer as artist involves the mastery of synthesis. This requires the ability to transform the data obtained from such observations while giving these celestial cycles sense, meaning, and accuracy in terms of the timing of events.
Our goal in this seminar is to perfect both our skill at observation and our use of the art of astrological synthesis. This will require the type of keen insight and proper use of technique and methodology that lets us know:
-
Day 1 of the Seminar: What to look for
-
Day 2: How to look for it
-
Day 3: How to find it
-
Day 4: How to time it
-
Day 5: How to interpret it
-
Day 6 (morning sessions): How to apply it
-
Day 6 (afternoon sessions): How to communicate it to our clients and ourselves
Techniques and methodologies: There are three primary lenses by which the astrologer peers through the looking glass at cosmic cycles. These are: transits, secondary progressions, and eclipses of the Sun and Moon. There are also two supportive techniques that we will also examine: solar arc directions and the solar return chart. It is far easier to note what is happening via these processes than to combine these results into a clear sense of what will take place and most importantly, when. Over the course of our six days of study, Alan will be sharing those methodologies of observation and synthesis that will focus your lens allowing the correct images to appear in your personal looking glass. Please bring your own charts as many of our examples and Alan’s interpretations will be taken from the natal horoscopes of our participants.
OUR JOURNEY

Your hotel in Lisbon:
Patrícia and I have chosen two hotels in Lisbon for your stay. One is an inexpensive, clean, modest pensão located in one of the most interesting areas of Lisbon, an easy and charming 10 minute walk from Alan’s apartment and about 15 minutes to Quiron. It is a place where Alan has stayed in several previous visits to Lisbon. The other is a modestly priced 5-star boutique hotel located in the most elegant part of the city, about 3 minutes from Alan’s place and about a 7 minute walk to the Quiron Center. The final price of the seminar/tour will reflect this choice. Whichever hotel you choose, we will be happy to make your reservations for you. In all other parts of Portugal, we will all be staying in the same lovely hotels.
Arrival on Wednesday, February 22
Each of us will make our way from the airport to our hotel. The taxi fare should be no more than €10 (about $14). That evening at 7.00pm you are welcome to a buffet supper and wine tasting get-together at Alan’s apartment located right in the historical center of Lisbon. (Easy walking directions from your hotel to Alan’s place will be sent to each registered participant.).
February 23-25 (10am to 6pm)
These are the first three days of the seminar. Classes will be taught at the Quiron Center. We will all meet at Alan’s apartment at 9:30am and then all walk together for 10 minutes to the school. Lunch on all these days is on your own and you can choose from the many inexpensive restaurants offering both Portuguese and international cuisine. Patrícia and Alan will guide you to their favorites and join you for lunch at the various places.
February 25 group dinner
You are invited to join us for a delicious Portuguese meal at one of our favorite restaurants located within a few minutes from either of the hotels.
February 26 is ENJOY LISBON DAY!
Alan will make some suggestions to you as to how to make the most out of your 24 completely free hours in Lisboa..

February 27
Today we board our private coach and travel to the magnificent walled city of Óbidos where automobiles are not allowed, the atmosphere magical, and the food is delicious. In this unique town the teaching will take place in the Hotel Real where we will all reside. Group lunch that afternoon at the Hotel. You are on your own the rest of the day and evening to explore this very special place out-of-time.
February 28-March 1
We remain in Óbidos and continue our studies from 9am to 5pm. Group lunch will be served at the Hotel on all three days. The late afternoon and evenings are yours to shop and explore the city but on March 1 there will be a group dinner at a lovely local restaurant, the Albergaria Josefa D’Óbidos.
March 2
We say adeus to those who will be leaving us. Transportation back to Lisbon will be arranged by us for you. Those who are continuing on the three-day tour will be boarding our coach after breakfast for the two hour drive to Sintra. This elegant small city was formerly an aristocratic get-away town that houses the Pena Palace high atop the Serra de Sintra (Mountains of Sintra). We will visit and tour the Palace where we can pause for a brief lunch at the Palace snack bar. We then continue on to the Quinta da Regaleira for a guided tour to the secret grottos where 19th century Portuguese Masons performed their festivals and rites. Our hotel is the beautiful Tivoli Sintra where we will enjoy a group dinner that evening.
March 3-4
After breakfast at the hotel, we board our coach for the 2 hour drive south to the ancient city of Evora. We will be staying here at a most picturesque hotel, the Albergaria do Calvário. After check-in we will have the best Portuguese buffet lunch at the Jardim do Praço (trust Alan on this one, he has Jupiter in Leo trine the Sun!). The Jardim sits right next to the ancient Roman Temple of Diana. After lunch we will proceed to the Capela dos Ossos, an amazing chapel constructed entirely out of human skulls and bones (just what were those Medieval monks thinking?). We will then return to our hotel followed by a group dinner than evening. After breakfast on the 4th, we will make a most extraordinary excursion to Cremleque de Almendras, a 5,000 year old stone circle of standing “menirs” that was a place of worship for centuries. Here Alan will hold a meditation and share some Teachings on the Ancient Wisdom. We return to Evora where you are free to roam the city until it is time for our final group dinner at our hotel.
March 5
We return to Lisbon where we will make our first stop at the International Airport for those who wish to depart for home that day; otherwise the bus will stop at our two Lisbon hotels for those who have decided to stay on a few days longer in this remarkable city.
Please Note:
Those of you who so choose are welcome to attend just the seminar (February 22 to March 1) as our three-day vacation tour following the seminar has been created as a pleasurable option.
